kitchen 101
what's in my fridge, pantry, and on my grocery list. plus, some of my essential kitchen tools.
if you’ve followed me on instagram for a while, you know that food was my first love. i grew up in a household that only believed in TV on the weekends, so any unattended time was spent (in secrecy) with ina garten. i was concocting apricot dijon rubs for pork loin at the tender age of 10, forcing my family to play ‘restaurant’ with me at 12, and went through a phase where i made lava cakes daily at 14. i love that food is a blend of both science and art, and while cooking is not quite everything to me, it’s pretty fucking close. being that food is the #1 topic in my DMs, it made sense for today’s dispatch to address the basics. we’re talking pantry staples, fridge essentials, and a few necessary tools.
the curation below is what i currently have in my fridge, and use on the regular. i can make anything from said assortment of condiments, dairy, and produce. a salad with a sexy dressing, a sushi bowl, roasted veggies with a silky sauce, pantry pasta, a mean soup, or a cozy dal. having brainless food in the freezer like congee or pasta sauce make weekday meals so much simpler. i thaw congee on the stovetop, throw in some fridge greens, then top it with a 7 minute egg and kimchi. just like that, dinner is ready.
