may favourites
sexy jeans, sexier movies, playful rings, and other summer essentials.
pardon my tardiness with this dispatch. the start of this month has been deliciously chaotic, and i haven’t had even a moment to marinade in the goodness of may. but i’m here now, sweating in the attic of my new home, chugging orange blossom iced coffee, ready to relive the romance of last month.
may was so good. it was tanned skin and ocean swims and greek salad and girlhood. it smelled like lilacs and tasted like rhubarb and looked like packing up for the very last time. there were road trips and nights on the roof and planning for what’s already an exciting june. a month of levity and light, thank you may. <3
wrist candy: if you follow me on any social platform then you already know that i’m in the midst of a bangle renaissance. my favourite pieces are from pilgrim and sezane.
coastal cuisine: pre-may i’d been to elio volpe a couple of times. i felt like i was waiting for the menu to catch up to the environment, and they’ve seemingly worked out the food kinks since my first visit. so much so, that i’m still thinking about the meal i had there at the end of the month. 9+ dishes, fluid service, and a spicy margarita spiked with castelvetrano juice and limoncello. the star of the show was a side stripe shrimp carpaccio littered with lemons and caviar. it was buttery and melted in my mouth and was served with fennel crackers. i could have licked the plate clean. highly recommend going with a group and trying everything.
foot finder: with sun comes flip flops, there’s no way to avoid it. the last thing my flat footbeds need are unsupported toe g-strings but i just can’t help myself. havianas are my preferred brand, i’ve got four pairs that i oscillate between. gap made some cute jellies that i’ve been wearing with baggy jeans and white tees.
in the buff: i started using soft services green banana buffing bar and it changed my body care game. anyone who spends time in the sun knows how important exfoliation is, and this product is the most user-friendly way to go about it. i’m left smooth as a dolphin, smelling like a nearly ripe banana.
food talk: i was first introduced to j lee via his column expense account on feed me. i can’t think of a food writer as evocative and hilarious as him, and i constantly return to his pieces when i’m in need of serotonin. it was announced last month that he signed on as a food editor with interview mag - the more lee the merrier.
sun soaked: summer makeup is minimal makeup, this is not a groundbreaking take. what is groundbreaking is the haus labs glossy blush balm in glassy cinnamon - i spoke about a different shade in my april favourites. it gives me that ‘did she burn her nose while floating in the adriatic sea?’ look that i crave this time of year. speaking of sun, new to the scene good weather spf sent me their daily zinc formula and i instantly loved it. no whitish blue cast, seamlessly blended in to my skin and didn’t pill under makeup! she’ll be my right hand girl for beach days. saie makes a mean cream bronzer, it’s buildable and natural, perfect for someone who has been doing their makeup since 14 but still kinda sucks at it.
staycation: i was lucky enough to spend a rejuvenating long weekend in a wee cabin on the lake. i talked about it here - and will reiterate that all my american friends should take a trip to BC this summer.
blue jean baby: i’m a creature of habit when it comes to denim. i’ve been wearing (almost exclusively) the same pair of baggy james street co jeans for the past four years. so imagine my surprise when a pair of rigid dark denim dethroned them as my most worn pair in may. last month, every other thursday launched their womens collection. a simple selection of candy coloured cashmere cardigans (say that 3 times fast), and some 90’s style jeans. i love how they sit on my body, they’re long enough for my 5’10 legs and the dark denim feels luxe. i went up 2 sizes so they fit lower on my hips, and i can already tell they’re going to wear in so well. i’ve already got my eye on the new tangerine track shorts that just launched.
good reads: shop sommer interviewed brooke callahan for their blog. my love for brooke’s pants are well documented, but learning more of her inner workings was a treat. there’s truly nothing that delights me quite like a peak behind the curtain.
lady of leisure: i seem to have the midas touch when it comes to buying vintage slips. whether on ebay or irl, it’s a domain i keep getting lucky in. in may i acquired a vintage sheer white banana republic number, a gold label VS piece from the 90s, and a black sexy midi slip that’s now a near daily wear. whether for the streets or for the sheets, i’m obsessed.
pretty picture: parthenope was a beautiful watch. it’s filled with wet hair and cigarettes and clingy dresses and yearning men. so i like gorgeous and sad things with minimal dialogue, sue me.
tee party: the boxy cropped t-shirt hunt ended in may. okay to rest, a brand i’ve loved since their inception, sent over a 3 pack of cotton tees and i’ve been wearing them like mad. made and designed in canada, i wear an XS and will be getting zeke the white and grey in M for the summer. they are currently on pre order till june 13th. <3
jet setter: ultimate tastemaker lucy williams was interviewed by window seat creator tori simokov on some of her favourite destinations, travel influences, and must have recs.
ring leader: brennan studios has been a longtime love of mine, their pieces timeless and flirty. in may they launched the circa ring - a chubby silver ring with an interchangeable centre stone sphere. essentially the cool girl's mood ring. i love brands that love to play. i’ve got the yellow jasper on my summer wishlist.
on ice: it’s simple, really. once temperatures climb above 16 degrees celsius, there will be a chilled tea option in the fridge. what afternoon isn’t made better with some cold caffeine that doesn’t involve milk? the tea of choice for may was genmaicha, ricey and delicate and oh so refreshing when served on the rocks.

Brennan ring is so yum
YES!! I will die on the Havianas hill. So quietly iconic, she is the cool girl of flip flops.
